Intern Intro // Annie Gray Dixon

FILED IN: Behind-the-Scenes, M&G Happenings

Posted By: Jamie Kutchman

Today I have the pleasure of introducing our third and final intern for this summer, Annie Gray. Yup, Annie Gray is her first name. Actually, she explained to me it's technically a "double name" which I think is incredibly chic. Not to mention, "Annie Gray working for Marigold & Grey" has a certain ring to it. Must be meant to be!

A rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill and a native of North Carolina, Annie Gray already has some significant event planning under her belt. You'll read more from her in her own words in just a moment, but she's a writer, artist and obsessed with anything DIY. My kind of girl! She'll be living and working in Georgetown this summer, working part-time for Scout in addition to her M&G internship. I'm super excited to have her on board and show her all the ins and outs of running a small business. I'm even more excited to introduce her to you all! Please give her a warm welcome!

Q: Tell me a little about yourself.

A: Hi! My name is Annie Gray Dixon and I am a rising junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’m studying Journalism and Mass Communication with a specialization in editing and design as well as a minor in Entrepreneurship. I'm an artist and paint mostly floral arrangements and landscapes, which can be found all around me in North Carolina. I also have a passion for historic preservation, which is unique for someone of my age and generation. I grew up in a 19th century house that was once a bank so my passion grew from my childhood but my love of preservation has also helped foster and grow my creative side!

Q: What are you most excited about for this internship?

A: Since I am minoring in Entrepreneurship I can’t wait to see what goes into starting a business, especially one in the creative industry. Marigold & Grey is a small company so I am excited to learn and grow from the experience of being able to see the inner workings of every aspect of the business. I also can’t wait to help with the assembly process of the wedding gifts because I love DIY projects! Of course, being in the DC area is a huge plus too.

Q: Where else have you been an intern?

A: I interned for the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the marketing department my senior year in high school and then that following summer I worked for Elizabeth McKay in New York. Working for Elizabeth McKay was such a fun and exciting opportunity as I got to explore the fashion industry as well as learn more about an upcoming brand and business. I interned for Salt Magazine in Wilmington, NC doing anything and everything social media related, which was great because I am interested in going into publication some day! This summer, alongside with interning at Marigold & Grey, I will be an editorial and blog intern at Scout in Georgetown.

Q: What would your dream wedding consist of?

A: I’m from a very small yet extremely historic town in North Carolina so I would want to have my wedding in Edenton, NC where I grew up. I would fill the trees that line my family’s yard with lights and have candles all over the yard. It would be a spring wedding because peonies are my favorite flowers and I would want buckets of them everywhere! And I can’t forget the goodies for my guest, who are the ones that help make the big day so special. I would give each guest a uniquely designed basket thanks to Marigold & Grey!

Q: What's your favorite thing about Marigold & Grey?

A: I love that it’s a small business focused on creativity and design. The baskets, as well as the items within are designed specifically for each bride and her guests, which makes every basket unique and creative! As an artist, I am a very visual person so I love how beautifully each gift turns out and how happy the baskets make the bride.

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?

A: I have many dreams and passions so it’s hard for me to say for sure, but I want to be doing something that is not only fun and energizing but also something that gives back in some form or another. For me, giving back to people, my community, and the world, usually comes from doing something I love so I would have to say I see my self pursuing a career that is creative.

Instagram is the best place to see more from our interns this summer! Make sure to follow along.
