Custom Bridesmaid Gifts for New York Fall Wedding // Part 1 of 2

Posted by: Jamie Kutchman | Founder

We love creating custom bridesmaid gifts so much that I’ve decided to do a bridal party mini-series starting….today! Part One features a recent custom gift design of ours and when you come back for Part Two, you’ll get to see the bride (a DC-area family portrait photographer) actually presenting her bridal party with the gifts on her wedding weekend. The girls’ reactions are priceless! Not to be a spoiler, but happy tears are definitely involved.

When Dana of Dana Rose Lee Photography contacted me to outsource her custom bridal party gifts, she wanted gifts that complimented her elegant fall aesthetic while also highlighting some very special pieces of original art. Dana’s mom, prior to passing away from cancer a number of years ago, was a well-known equestrian artist. Dana wanted to gift each of her bridesmaids an original piece of framed art of her mom’s as a way of honoring both her bridesmaids and her Mom on her wedding weekend. As luck would have it, while searching through storage in the months leading up to her wedding, Dana ended up finding the exact number of original pieces in the exact same design allowing each friend to receive the same gift! It was meant to be.

Dana’s color palette was navy and merlot so we kept everything very soft and neutral with pops of blue and red to allow the art to take center stage. We opted for natural open-top pine crates, lilac artisan candles, Rosebud Salve in vintage-inspired tins, a deep red pashmina, and an ivory Plum Pretty Sugar robe featuring the prettiest, most delicate lace trim on the bottom of each. The entire bridal party, including Dana, wore the robes while getting ready on wedding day. The bridal party also wore the red pashminas for portraits while we included an extra ivory one for the bride to wear as well!

In addition to custom gift tags in the same pattern as her invitation suite, we also included a small welcome note in each gift crate featuring the same organic motif. The gift tags were personalized with each bridesmaid’s name to make the gift even that much more special. Silk merlot ribbon finished everything off.

When Dana came to our gift studio to pick up the crates prior to driving up to New York for her wedding weekend, she was beaming with excitement. It was truly gratifying seeing her reaction as she studied each and every element of the finished gift crates, realizing that her vision had truly come to life. Stay tuned for Part Two later this week where we’ll reveal the bridesmaids’ reactions as they see the gifts for the very first time. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it!

7 Tips for Creating Bridesmaid Gifts Your Bridal Party will Love

Posted by: Jamie Kutchman | Founder

The bond between the bride and her bridesmaids is a special one which is why we love creating unique bridal party gifts for our wedding clients. While we do a lot of “will you be my bridesmaid” gifts, we also love to design gifts for bridesmaid luncheons and bridal party appreciation gifts to be presented on the wedding day. So many possibilities! Today we’re sharing our top seven things to consider when designing gifts for your bride tribe…

Packaging They Can Use Again & Again:

Whether we’re designing a custom gift or putting together a piece from our Pre-Designed Collection, we always think of packaging first! We frequently turn to our tried and true seagrass baskets, crates, totes, and hatboxes because each will undoubtedly be used again and again by your bridal party long after your wedding is over. They key is wrapping up the contents in a piece the recipient can’t imagine tossing aside!

Mirror the Wedding’s Color Palette:

Mirroring the color palette of the wedding is key when designing any wedding gift, and it’s especially important when gifting your bridesmaids. This theory is perfect to use when asking your bridesmaids to be in your wedding because it acts as a sneak peek into what they can expect. Not to mention, if you’re presenting your gifts just before your wedding day, your girlfriends will love that each piece coordinates with their bridesmaid dresses!

A Piece to Wear on the Wedding Day:

Your getting-ready photos are some of the ones you will all treasure for years to come. With this in mind, it’s always so fun when everyone is wearing a coordinating piece they can also wear at home post-fete. Plum Pretty Sugar robes are on of our go-to pieces because the colors and patterns are timeless and lovely.

Lasting Keepsake:

Although many of the pieces your squad will receive in their custom bridesmaid gifts can be reused, there’s something so special about a lasting keepsake. We love including beautiful Turkish-T towels! These are perfect as a new luxury item in your bathroom, but we also love bringing them along to picnics and the beach year round.

Spa Ready Item:

Getting ready for your wedding should feel like a day at the spa for everyone! Hair and makeup with your best friends – what could be better? Luxurious creams always provide a wonderful hint at what to expect, and we also adore Plum Pretty Sugar’s sleep masks. There are few things more important before an exciting day than a great night’s rest.

Something Personalized:

Every bridesmaid loves seeing her name in print so make sure to include a personalized piece! We love turning to calligraphers to carefully write each bridesmaids’ name on gift tags and hangers. Perfect to use for wedding dress photos and for her favorite piece at home.

Honor Your Wedding’s Location:

With each gift we design, we always recommend including a salty snack or something sweet that can only be found in the area surrounding your wedding venue. Locals will think it’s fun to discover something they know and love well, and visitors will get to try something you adore. Another fun piece to use to honor your wedding’s location is a custom sketch of your venue!

Gifting Advice for the Bride-to-Be

Posted by: Kelly Rumpke | Studio Associate

I have a confession to make. I didn’t have welcome gifts at my wedding. I know, I know! How can I work at Marigold & Grey and not have spoiled my own wedding guests? Well to be honest, like a lot of brides, it just fell to the bottom of my to-do list. When we got married in 2014, most of the welcome gift inspiration available online was limited to paper bags full of small local treats. This created two problems. 1) It just wasn’t that inspiring. I was obsessed with the aesthetic details of our day and those paper bags just didn’t do it for me. 2) I thought that because they were so simple, they would be easily thrown together the week before. Well of course in the weeks leading up to the wedding, I found more and more tasks that seemed more pressing or more fun than those paper bags and at the end of the day they just never happened.

Despite my apathy towards welcome gifts, I did still participate in many of the wedding gifting traditions and since yesterday was my two-year anniversary, I thought it would be fun to run through my do’s and don’ts of wedding gifting.

DO Make it Personal

I think this especially applies to bridesmaids or groomsmen gifts. I love a good matching robe just as much as the next bride but let’s be honest. Those robes or oversized button downs are partially a gift for the bride just so that you can get those adorable getting ready pictures. Each of your bridesmaids probably has very different tastes, likes and dislikes. Be sure to include something in each gift that acknowledges those differences and embraces them.

DON’T Be Stingy

Now wait, I’m not saying you have to spend 100’s of dollars on a single gift. What I do mean is to take advantage of this gifting opportunity. How often do you get a chance to express just how deeply thankful you are for the most important people in your life? The people surrounding you on your wedding day are the ones that have been there since the beginning, the ones that have nurtured you and your relationship, watched you grow and guided you through the joys and sorrows that have lead you to this day.  Thank them, then thank them again. If you can afford to shower them in luxury this is great opportunity to do so, if you can’t don’t worry. A simple heartfelt note among a few of their favorite things shows them that you care and that alone can be priceless.

DO Have some fun with it

I found wedding gifting to be somewhat intimidating. I felt like each gift had to mimic the gravity of the day and I stressed and stressed over what to give. Eventually I remembered that the people I wanted to honor were the same people that would still love us unconditionally even if we never ever gave them another gift. Once I let myself relax a bit, I had so much fun finding small and personal ways to thank the most important people in our lives.

DON’T Wait until the last minute

It seems like parent gifts and bridal party and groomsmen gifts are often some of the last items on a couple’s to do list. Move ‘em on up! These people have devoted the better part of a year celebrating you and your future partner so why would you give yourself just days to figure out how to thank them? Not waiting until the last minute has at least two benefits. First, regardless of how budget savvy you are, wedding gifts can get expensive quickly. By planning and purchasing over a long period of time you can spread out the potential costs. Secondly, how many times have you found yourself throwing a gift together at the last minute only to stumble upon something that would have been perfect just a few days later? That doesn’t happen to you? Well, it happens to me quite frequently and that is why I gave myself plenty of time to curate the perfect gifts for my favorite people.

If I had to offer one last piece of advice, it would be this: As the bride and groom, you receive so much during the wedding process. From engagement parties to showers to bachelor/bachelorette parties to the wedding itself, so many people devote their time, energy and money to celebrating you and your marriage. Soak up every moment and take every opportunity to give back and say ‘thank you’ to the special people in your life.

How do you plan to gift to those around you during your wedding planning process? Let us know! We’d love to hear from you.

Custom Bridesmaid Gift Baskets in Navy, Gold & White

Posted by: Jamie Kutchman | Founder

Not long after we launched our brand new line of pre-designed bridal party gifts, we began receiving requests for custom bridesmaid gifts. Needless to say, I was definitely up for the design challenge. Custom bridesmaids gifts?! I’m in heaven!

The design I want to highlight today is for a super sweet Midwest bride named Erin who was excited to thank her girls for being by her side throughout her entire wedding planning process and leading up to the big day. Erin gave me some information about her color palette and wedding style and I got to work on the gift design right away.

Using a foundation of navy, white and gold, I chose a soft palette, keeping things as feminine as possible. Spa robes with each bridesmaid’s initials monogrammed in gold, along with a soy candle helped to create the light, airy aesthetic I was going for.

I also included luxe Turkish-T towels with muted navy stripes along with Rosebud Salve, Sugarfina candy and white Essie nail polish. For an additional pop of gold, I opted for handcrafted zipper pouches in a modern gold and white print. It pained me to send these off, by the way. I secretly wanted one for myself!

Each bridesmaid’s name was hand-lettered in modern calligraphy by Poppy & Scooter and tied on the outside with coordinating satin ribbon. So pretty and personal.

We loved the thought and effort Erin put into thanking those who are important to her even in the midst of her own wedding planning. Congratulations to Erin and hoping her September wedding was all she could’ve ever hoped for!
